Donut Jihadi

An ever vigilant keeper of conservatism on Faux News has discovered that Dunkin Donuts is subliminally promoting Muslim extremism through its television advertisements. I'm not sure if Rachelle Ray is an active participant in the effort to undermine christian culture or just an uninformed dupe of the Ayatollah.
Dunkin Donuts has withdrawn their ad after it was exposed, but rest assured that the righteous are watching!
Below is a side by side picture of people wearing the offending headress. Yasir Arafat is the one with the beard.

Quote:
Does Dunkin' Donuts really think its customers could mistake Rachael Ray for a terrorist sympathizer? The Canton-based company has abruptly canceled an ad in which the domestic diva wears a scarf that looks like a keffiyeh, a traditional headdress worn by Arab men. Some observers, including ultra-conservative Fox News commentator Michelle Malkin, were so incensed by the ad that there was even talk of a Dunkin' Donuts boycott. "The keffiyeh, for the clueless, is the traditional scarf of Arab men that has come to symbolize murderous Palestinian jihad," Malkin yowls in her syndicated column. "Popularized by Yasser Arafat and a regular adornment of Muslim terrorists appearing in beheading and hostage-taking videos, the apparel has been mainstreamed by both ignorant and not-so-ignorant fashion designers, celebrities, and left-wing icons." The company at first pooh-poohed the complaints, claiming the black-and-white wrap was not a keffiyeh. But the right-wing drumbeat on the blogosphere continued and by yesterday, Dunkin' Donuts decided it'd be easier just to yank the ad. Said the suits in a statement: "In a recent online ad, Rachael Ray is wearing a black-and-white silk scarf with a paisley design. It was selected by her stylist for the advertising shoot. Absolutely no symbolism was intended. However, given the possibility of misperception, we are no longer using the commercial.

Okay, first off, Michelle Malkin is even too conservative for me. Not ALL of the Fox News cast agrees with her ravings and to take this sort of thing seriously is so far beyond the realm of reality, we are stepping in to a "Lord of the Rings" type world. That was ONE PERSON'S OPINION! One that she is entitled to and, if others listen to her, that is THEIR problem. There are very FEW things that she says that I agree with.

It has been said that Ms Malkin "habitually mistakes shrill for thought-provoking and substitutes screaming for discussion."

But yes, that is her right, that a cable network has provided her with a platform to launch an attack on advertisers is also their right. Nobody takes the left wingnuts seriously other than to frighten the dimwitted. Ms Malkin and her cohorts threat of a boycott over this goofy idea caused DD to cave-in.

The only threat that I can think of on the left that had any affect was boycotting grapes to support Cesar Chavez' attempts to stop illegal immigration, and that didn't succeed.

Oh yes, and let's hear it for Nancy Grace! The self-appointed judge of all things evil in this world on CNN!! Talk about shrill and screaming! God! She looks evil-incarnate herself when she gets going on someone!

Can't say I've heard her, but then I've never heard Ms Malkin speak either. I see her column occasionally. I assumed that's what the shrill comment was a reference to.
Regarding Ms Grace, I would think a shrill speaking voice would keep her off TV. Was she the Lacy Peterson one or the girl that disappeared on that island (Bermuda?) one?

What was she boycotting?

The last anchor I followed on CNN was Bella Shaw, she was a cutie. Lynne Russel was on also but she didn't do much for me. Christainne Aminpour did foreign reporting of some sort. I don't think any of them had a shrill voice.

Nancy Grace was in reference to your comment about Fox having the right to give Michelle Malkin a platform to speak. Nancy Grace has, herself, been personally responsible for a woman committing suicide and the following in reference to the Duke LaCrosse scandal:

Quote:
Grace took a pro-prosecution slant thoughout the entire case. During that time, she made several inflammatory comments. Prior to Duke suspending its men's lacrosse team's season, she sarcastically noted on the air, "I'm so glad they didn't miss a lacrosse game over a little thing like gang rape!" and "Why would you go to a cop in an alleged gang rape case, say, and lie and give misleading information?" After the disbarment of Mike Nifong, Attorney General, Roy Cooper, pronounced all three players innocent of the rape charges made by Mangum. The following broadcast, Grace did not appear, and a substitute reporter announced the removal of all charges. Nancy Grace has yet to apologize.
While she has not called for any boycotts, she is a VERY controversial figure whose opinions are listened to by many. Some agree, some disagree, just like with Michelle Malkin. I guarantee you that, had Dunkin Donuts stayed their ground, they would not have been affected. Caving in to her like they did just gives her credence.
